Polite Expressions

Being polite means giving respect.

We use polite expressions when we talk to people
so that we can have a good relationship with them.

Being polite helps you to have more friends.
It also helps you encourage people when you have
business.

Polite expressions includes the common greetings:
Good morning!
Good Afternoon!
Good Evening!

Other polite expressions includes:
Excuse me
Thank you
Sorry
Please

*You use Excuse me when you want to get the attention of someone.
Example: (on a department store)  Excuse me,can can I ask?
               (inside the classroom)    Excuse me teacher , I am going to the comfort room.
               (during meetings)           Say "Excuse me" if you want to go out or answer an
                                                     important call
    (during unavoidable situations)  Say "Excuse me" when you suddenly
                                                   coughed or sneezed while   
                                                   you are talking to
                                                   someone.

*You also use Excuse me if you want to pass between
two people. This is a way of giving respect.

Completing sentences using is

When to use is?


Some people commit mistakes in using " is".It is helpful for you to know the rules in using "is''so you won't commit mistakes in using it in a sentence.







"Is" is a kind of linking verb. Link means to connect.
The use of linking verb is to connect the topic of the sentence
to the information.

Example: Suzuki is washing her clothes.


Suzuki is the topic (also known as the subject)
washing her clothes is the information.(also known as the predicate)
The linking verb "is" connects Suzuki, which is the topic and washing her clothes, which is the information


*We use is if the subject or topic of the sentence is singular.

What is a sentence?

A sentence is a group of  words that tells a complete idea.
Example:
The baby is laughing.
My mother is in the kitchen.

¨In a sentence, you can understand what the speaker wants you to know.
¨A sentence has a topic and an information about the topic.
In writing a sentence, you must start with a capital letter.
