What can you see in the pictures above?
They are doing something and they are moving, right?
These are the examples of a VERB.
A verb is an action word.
- The verb is the Heart of a sentence- every sentence must have a verb.
- The shortest sentence contains a verb. You can make a one-word sentence with a verb, for example: "Stop!"
Let's look at a few more examples:
The little dog runs so fast.
Browny plays with the ball.
What's going on in these sentences? A couple of dogs are doing funny things; but what they are doing is the verb--in this case, the little dog "runs" and Browny "plays". Both show action.
The baby eats an ice cream.
eats here is the verb or the action word.
In each of the following sentences, the verb is highlighted:
- Mark runs so fast.
- I study English everyday.
- Gen plays soccer.
- Mary dances gracefully.
