A and An

One of the basics of grammar is knowing the article A and An.People do not give much attention to this that is why they misuse it unknowingly in a sentence .Do not be one of those people! Know the rules!

*A and An can only be used before a singular noun.

It is wrong to say:
I have an apples in my basket

The noun"apples" is plural so we cannot use the article An.

The correct way to say the sentence is:
I have apples in my basket.

*An is used before a word that starts with a vowel sound.

Example: An orange (orange starts with the vowel "o")
                 An elephant(elephant starts with a vowel "e")

How about the article "A"?When should we use it in a sentence?
